Driver: San Francisco appears on 1 September 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players.However, Pc players must still wait up to 29 September.
The first reviews of the game have been published and the overall scores are turned out pretty well. 4 of 5 each tester awarded 8 points (IGN, Eurogamer, Videogamers and OXM USA) a maximum of 10. CVG rated the game with 8.5 points, even a little bit better.
IGN: 8 / 10
It looks great, it's got a lot of personality, it tells of entertaining story and it's great fun to play. A few frustrating difficulty spikes and the story's rather premature ending are the only negative.
Eurogamer: 8/10
Driver: San Francisco isn't quite the jolt that the arcade driving genre needs to stir it from its own particular coma, then, but it's an endearing and eccentric experience in itself. In Reflection's best work since the Driver series began, it's managed to tame the ridiculous and conjure something quite sublime.
Videogamer: 8/10
Driver San Francisco could have been a one-trick pony, but it has managed to use that trick in a variety of clever and interesting ways, ensuring the driving gameplay never becomes tiresome or generic. Get over the slightly ludicrous coma explanation, and chances are you'll have a lot of fun with what Reflections has delivered. With a bit of imagination, the dev team takes the open-word driving genre to new heights.
CVG: 8.5
So the story will get in the way at first - Reflections is obviously a bit nervous about introducing its zany Shift concept without narrative explanation - but, once you're behind the wheel, you'll realise that San Francisco is definitely a long-overdue return to form for the Driver series.
OXM UK: 8/10
It's a turbo-powered drifty racer with a loveably fractured premise and a world that's full of challenges and stunts. It's better than it has any right to be.
